| ROSE BED INN CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO OCTOBER 12 & 13, 2007 |
While participating in the instruction of a two day Ghost Hunting 101 Class with the Adult Education Department of Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO), PTF Greg Myers & Sandra Oates had the privilege of having their stay accommodated by the warm and friendly owners (Eldon & James) of the Rose Bed Inn at 611 S. Sprigg Street in Cape Girardeau, MO. The only problem we encountered at this very warm and hospital establishment was the fact that participating in the Ghost Hunting Class and associated night time interactive investigative tours took us away from this cozy warm serene place and from the company of its most friendly and gracious owners/operators. We look forward to being able to return to this wonderful place for just a cozy weekend get-away to cherish and embellish all it offers. We also highly recommend that if you get the chance for a weekend adventure then you would want to add this great place to your list for both its charm and paranormal activity! From the Rose Bed Inn website at: www.rosebedinn.com The Rose Bed Inn was built between 1908 and 1910 as a private residence for the family of William and Ella Schrader. William was a German immigrant who neither spoke nor wrote any English. Ella was English speaking and was therefore the one who conducted most of the family's business. In fact, the property was in her name only for a period, quite unusual for the era. William was a prominent brick contractor, despite the language barrier. This home was built as not only the family residence, but also as a show place for his talent as a builder. The brick is a rare composite, referred to as "Iron Spot". Even though the home featured indoor plumbing at the time of construction, William disdained modernization; therefore the children carried water from the cistern and filled the bathroom fixtures using buckets. Another unusual feature of this home, given its Midwest location, is the flat-topped center of the roof, referred to as the "Widow's Walk". From the rooftop one can see the Mississippi River. The house was sold numerous times, falling into disrepair. The current owners purchased the residence in 1995 for the purpose of converting the stately home into its current usage... an upscale Bed & Breakfast with reservation dining, banquet facilities, gift shop, day spa, exercise room and wedding chapel. Per the humble owners/operators the root of the main haunting goes back several decades to a complex love triangle which resulted in a suicide within the main headquarters building of this cozy establishment. The main resident ghost from this love triangle is called "Alex". "Alex" has made his presence know to the owners and others through various means including moving objects, opening & closing doors, unexpectedly touching some or allowing them to hear his disembodied voice and making areas within the building much colder than the ambient temperature. If you ever decide to spend a day or two at this humble place then the owners Eldon or James would be more than happy to share their as well as the encounters of others. There is no doubt that if you stay a night yourself that you will also have your own unique unexplainable experiences to share as well! We were not able to conduct a full "proper" investigation with our time table including teaching the SEMO Ghost Hunting Class with interactive investigative visits to other haunted sites as well with conducing an investigation at Club Moxy. However, we were able to utilize some equipment when there resting and relaxing. Our stay was in the Gypsie Rose building and the following experiences are from inside or just outside that building. I had the pleasure of staying in the Carnival Rose Room on the first floor while Sandy had the pleasures of the Sun Rose Room on the top once attic floor. We were the only guest to stay in this entire building the two nights there. During our two night stay we experienced the following: 1. The traveling smell of a musky male cologne inside the Carnival Rose Room which also was accompanied with a temperature drop of 8 to 10 Degrees Fahrenheit and mild EMF readings up to 3 milligauss. 2. While in the hallway we fell witness to the serene sounds of a young female child singing from inside the Desert Rose Room which we did not have access to those nights. 3. Moving cold spots were also encountered in other areas of the building as well. 4. While outside the building enjoying the nighttime fresh air we witnessed the lights in the Desert Rose Room turning off and on by themselves and also at one time witnessed the curtain being drawn back and seeing an unexplainable shadow peering out of the window. 5. Loud bangs like doors slamming were heard while outside. 6. Another strange sound like that of an ice machine dumping ice was heard, upon further investigation there was no ice machine in this building. 7. While outside a full apparition of a white male was observed for a split second near the back gate and next to what is the wedding chapel as it faded to nothing before the witnesses eyes. 8. Unexplainable moving shadows were also observed in the rear courtyard of this establishment as well. 9. Unexplainable footsteps on the interior stairway were also heard at different times as well as closing door noises while inside the building. NOTE - SCROLL DOWN AND TURN OFF MUSIC BEFORE LISTENING TO EVP'S One Class B EVP was captured during the first night in the Sun Rose Room in which Sandra stayed. Here is the raw clip with the unexplainable voice: Here is just the EVP amplified and slightly cleaned: Here is just the EVP slowed to 80% original speed: This is a male voice well below the 100 Hz range. We do not know what it is saying for sure, if you have any ideas then let us know what you think. It is the opinion of Paranormal Task Force that with the capture of just the one remarkable EVP or disembodied voice alone is not enough unexplainable evidence to substantiate an actual haunting or existence of paranormal activity. However, coupled with the inordinate amount of actual unexplainable experiences we had alone and then taking into consideration the credible past experiences of the owners and others allows us to state that it is our belief that this establishment does have paranormal activity and an actual haunting taking place. However, follow up investigation(s) with a full regimen of equipment and possibly sensitive investigators would have to be conducted to further determine the type and level of haunting occurring at this establishment through the collection of further evidence and experiences. Shared evidence and experiences of others who have and/or will stay overnight at this wonderful place in the future would also help us determine such. |
