People have also experience seeing the figures of a female and children in the windows from the outside when passing by. Several members of the Long family have physically passed away inside this home and are buried in the nearby cemetery. Austin-Milam-Lucas Store - People on the outside have observed a shadow figure passing by an upstairs window on the inside. Other past reports have included odd odors as well as unexplainable electrical problems such as lights and other appliances turning on and off on their own when this was once an apartment building. Rumors of a past suicide were reported. We were able to confirm through research that local banker, Frank J. Flynn, committed suicide at this location on January 17, 1932 by shooting himself in the heart with a .38 caliber revolver. Old Presbyterian Church-Museum - There have been no reports of unexplainable activity from this location. For this investigation various video recorders with and without infra red extenders and night shot capabilities were used. Various digital still cameras, EMF meters, voice recorders, IR Thermometers and radiation detectors were also utilized throughout the investigation. Also experimentation was done with Ultra Violet light in conjunction with a night shot camera. Those in attendance met at approximately 6 p.m. at the Haunted Sweet Memories Sandwich & Ice Cream Shop for a wonderful dinner provided by Cindy the owner. After dinner some of the attendees were given a tour of all properties to identify and determine any logistical and safety hazards, equipment placement, investigative strategy and other data. The team was divided into sub-teams with each one focusing on a specific property being investigated through the night. The nearby Masonic, City and Presbyterian cemeteries were also mildly investigated during building lock downs, etc. The investigation ended at approximately 1:15 a.m. and all attendees returned home. Various odd and unexplainable experiences of investigators and attendees included: 1. Steven R. - readings of 0.4 milligauss were observed on the Cell Sensor Electro Magnetic Field Meter upon entry to the log cabin adjacent to the Austin Store. Readings dissipated upon entry of 5 other people and within 20 minutes of four people leaving and three remaining, readings spiked back up to the 0.4 milligauss level. An unexplainable temperature drop from 82.0 degrees F to 74.0 degrees F also occurred during this period. 2. Various investigators at the Austin Store experienced moving cold spots at various times within the building as well as odd knocking and other noises. 3. During an interactive EVP session in the Long-Banta House it was requested that a spirit play a note on the piano located downstairs while investigators were on the second floor. A note being played was observed by several attendees. After this, the investigators requested the same spirit to play a higher note in response and a higher being played was observed by several attendees again. 4. Two investigators in the Long-Banta House experienced a period of a moving energy that they were able to detect and follow from the first floor to the second with their Electro Magnetic Field Meter as well as accelerated and unexplainable battery drainage of equipment. 5. During lock down of the Long Banta home, investigators outside observed a shadow figure inside the home pass by a window. 6. Investigators in the cemetery observed a moving cold spot with a temperature of 77 degrees F while the ambient temperature was 85 degrees F. 7. An investigator was touched on the back by something unseen while doing an interactive EVP session in the Long-Banta House. Several hours of audio and video were collected as well as many digital and film photographs. Preliminary Analysis Notable audio and video clips have been extracted and are undergoing further analysis as well as the numerous photographs. Final Analysis & Results Although full analysis has not been completed, there already have been many significant audio clips resulting in 8 confirmed EVP extracts. There may be significant video clips as well which are still undergoing analysis. Paranormal Task Force/Missouri Paranormal Research at this point can state that there is a very high probability that paranormal activity is present at the Long-Banta House and the Austin Store along with some areas of the Masonic, Presbyterian and Old City Cemetery as indicated by notable and significant EVP captures and human experiences. However, further follow up investigations along with the completion of analysis of data collected at this investigation will have to be done to come to a more thorough and objective conclusion. A follow up investigation was conducted in July of 2008, a report will be posted in the near future. PARANORMAL TASK FORCE |
